Short CV

Christian Weismayer studied Business Economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU; 1999-2011) and Technical Mathematics at the Leopold-Franzens University of Innsbruck (2003-2004). He holds a doctoral degree in social and economic sciences and was working at WU at the Institute for Tourism and Leisure Studies as a research associate from 2006 to 2011. Between 2011-2017 he was part of the Department of Applied Statistics and Economics, since 2017 (after a department merger), he joins the School of Sustainability, Governance, and Methods (SGM), both at Modul University Vienna.

He participated in projects funded by the Anniversary Fund of the Austrian National Bank (OeNB), the Anniversary Fund of the City of Vienna, the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), Eurostat, ESPON - EGTC (European Spatial Planning Observatory Network - European Grouping on Territorial Cooperation) and collaborations with Statistics Austria. He joins the scientific committe of the Brazilian Journal of Tourism Research (RBTUR), the editorial council of Tourism – Vision and Action (RTVA), is a paper review board member for the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology (JHTT) and acts as a reviewer/session chair for several journals/conferences. His research has been published in leading international scholarly journals and lies in the application/development of data mining techniques, geographical information systems (GIS), text mining approaches like latent semantic analysis, text-based (verbal emotion recognition) and biometry-based (facial action coding) sentiment and emotion detection, to wellbeing- and tourism-related research questions and their transmission to interactive dashboards.

He has been teaching/supervising theses at the (under-)graduate level at WU, the University of Applied Sciences for Management and Communication (FH Vienna der WKW, Austria), the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna (Austria), was invited as visiting lecturer at UNIVALI (Santa Catarina, Brasil), and as guest lecturer the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) (Curitiba, Brasil) and the University of Surrey (UK). Within Modul University Vienna, he organizes the Research Seminar Series, is a member of the Senate and the Institutional Review Board (IRB), first aider, fire safety officer, and teaches the following courses:
