Abstract
In Austria, casinos are a vital feature of the local and regional leisure and tourist facilities and improve the qualita tive and structural competitiveness of a region. In the first step, it can be noted in toto that the value added originally assigned to the casinos in the national accounts might be re duced, in a marginal analysis, by the action of substitution effects occurring in the wake of unplanned losses. In the next step, expenditures by casino visitors trigger an economic process that is propagated through several stages and create additional effective demand.
