Abstract
In this chapter, we develop a framework that illustrates how the metaverse, a persistent multiuser environment that combines physical and digital elements, can enhance supply chain management and operations. We discuss its impact on five core activities: communication and collaboration, data analytics and planning, manufacturing and maintenance, logistics and transportation, and, finally, warehousing and inventory management. Additionally, the metaverse can strengthen relationships and skills by interacting with suppliers, engaging customers, and enhancing employees' skills. Finally, it can improve important supply chain properties: resilience, visibility and transparency, and sustainability. We conclude this chapter with recommendations for researchers, managers, and policymakers.
